What are the Ingredients in ALEVE®?

    Does ALEVE® contain acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)?

    ALEVE® contains the active ingredient naproxen sodium, which is a pain reliever/fever reducer. ASPIRIN® contains the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), which is also a pain reliever/fever reducer. ALEVE® products do not contain any ASA. ALEVE® should not be taken with any other pain reliever/fever reducer unless your doctor has instructed you to do so.

    Can naproxen sodium cause an allergic reaction?

    Naproxen sodium, the active ingredient in ALEVE®, may cause a severe allergic reaction, especially in people allergic to acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) or other NSAIDs. Symptoms may include hives, facial swelling, asthma (wheezing), shock, skin reddening, rash or blisters. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop use and seek medical help right away. Do not take ALEVE® if you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to ALEVE® or any other pain reliever/fever reducer.

    Does ALEVE® contain gluten?

    According to the Aleve® product labels, gluten is not listed as a medicinal or non-medicinal ingredient. As raw materials for each product are sourced from various suppliers, Bayer Inc. cannot guarantee that an excipient of, or chemical used in the manufacture of, Aleve® has not come into contact with gluten at some stage. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that Aleve® products are completely free of gluten.

    Does ALEVE® contain ibuprofen?

    ALEVE® contains the active ingredient naproxen sodium, which is a pain reliever/fever reducer. It does not contain any ibuprofen, which is also a pain reliever/fever reducer. ALEVE® should not be taken with any other pain reliever/fever reducer unless your doctor has instructed you to do so.

    Does ALEVE® contain acetaminophen?

    ALEVE® contains the active ingredient naproxen sodium, which is a pain reliever/fever reducer. It does not contain any acetaminophen, which is also a pain reliever/fever reducer. ALEVE® should not be taken with any other pain reliever/fever reducer unless your doctor has instructed you to do so.

    Does ALEVE® contain sodium (salt)?

    Each ALEVE® tablet, caplet,  and liquid gel capsule contains 20 mg of sodium.

    Does ALEVE® contain caffeine?

    No, ALEVE® does not contain caffeine.

    What is the source of gelatin used in Aleve®?

    Gelatin which is listed as a non-medicinal ingredient as per the Aleve® Liquid Gel and Aleve® Back & Body product labels is from porcine and bovine origin.
